Cougar Safety Tips

Following numerous reports of cougar sightings in the Burke Mountain area, the B.C. Conservation Officer Service is urging everyone residing near greenbelts to be extra careful. Although none of these sightings have been proved by photo evidence, residents are still being warned because these animals are mobile and maintain a large home territory. Below are some safety tips.

  • Install a perimeter fencing around your property for added security.
  • Remove unnecessary vegetation so not to give coyotes and cougars any place to sleep.
  • Don’t leave your cats and dogs outside your home unsupervised.
