How to Stay Safe During a Bear Sighting

Bears usually look for food in preparation for winter hibernation during later summer and early fall. And because there were recent bears spotted in various northwest campuses, everyone should be familiar with bear safety tips.

  • Don’t feed the bears nor put out food for other animals that will attract bears.
  • Don’t fill the bird feeders and make sure to dispose your trash properly.
  • Keep all your windows and doors closed and locked.
  • Call 911 if you spot a bear on campus.
  • Stand still and remain calm when you encounter a bear.
