Feeding Deer May Be Bad

Many people think that feeding a deer with day-old crackers, corn or breed can do more good than harm to these wild animals. Unfortunately, feeding them can have a negative impact not only on public safety but also to the entire herd.

A deer’s digestive system is designed for winter forage. Their stomach has in fact millions of specialized micro-organisms that can’t tolerate changes in diet. As a matter of fact, it takes one to four weeks before a deer can transition back to its natural diet and during such period they would continue to starve. When these wild animals get lethargic and clumsy, they can become easy targets for predators.
